*) including trips of children up to 14 years;
please note that the number of trips refers only to tourist trips and thus does not comprise any trips connected with searching for or doing jobs in visited countries.

All data are approximate. Some tourists visited more than one country during their travels, therefore, the number of visits to a given country may exceed the number of departures.

For example, departures for Germany are very frequent, but a great number of them are linked with further travelling to other countries of Western Europe. Similarly, Polish nationals travelling to Southern and South - Western Europe usually go through the Czech and Slovak Republics.

Since 2000, the seperate survey (carried out at borders) on travels abroad has been abandoned; now we are collecting information on that issue from the survey on participation on tourism, conducted in respondents' homes. Due to different method, the new results are not comparable.
Previous results have been removed to the archive.

Purposes of travelling abroad

Rest, holidays, country tours, i.e. typical tourist purposes have been recently the basic incentives for Polish foreign departures. In 2004, however, its share dropped to 38% and went up again in 2005. In 2006 it was 44%.
Stays with families and friends keep the level of about 25%, and the share of business trips and incentives decreased significantly (from 33% to 19% in 2005 and 2006).
