Domestic and outbound tourist trips in three quarters of 2008

1. Number of trips

During three quarters of 2008 polish residents took 29.4 million domestic tourist trips; 43% of trips were long-term (4 nights or longer), and 57 % – short-term.
The number of long trips decreased, while short breaks grew. In sum, total number of domestic trips went up by 4%, compared to the same period of 2007.

The number of outbound tourist trips rose by 2% up to 3.5 million. Polish tourists have most often visited Germany, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Croatia, Netherlands and Slovakia.

Note: total number of visits is greater than the number od trips, as some people visited more than one voivodship.


 

In three quarters of 2008 the typical tourism was a purpose of nearly 40% domestic trips. Out of all of them, 11.4 million have been made for typically tourist purposes, of which about 60% constituted long-term trips, and 40% – short-breaks.

Over a half of foreign departures of Poles were typical tourism trips. That kind of departures accounted for some 2.8 million (2.2 m in 2007 r.); the number of business trips is being estimated for about 1.1 million.
