During the first quarter of 2010 year there were:
- 9 million departures abroad (by 8% more than in 1Q of 2009) and
- 12.3 million arrivals (by 4% more).
- The number of tourist arrivals is estimated for this time at some 2.45 mill (by 4% more).
During the whole 2009 year:
- 39.3 million departures abroad (by 22% less than in 2008) and
- 53.8 million arrivals (by 10% less).
- The number of tourist arrivals is estimated for this time at 11.9 mill (by 8% less).
– Details on monthly arrivals by country in 2007 and previous years.
– Monthly arrivals by type of borders.
The total number of tourist inbound arrivals shall rise from 15.0 million in 2007, throughout weak 2008 and 2009 years, to around 13.2/13.3 million in 2012 and 2013. We assume some changes in structure of inbound tourism: in terms of generating countries as well as in purposes of visits. Leisure trips are supposed to grow faster than transit, shopping-oriented and VFR trips.
Generally, there are three main motivations for travelling:
holidays, leisure, business,
visiting friends and relatives
Besides, Polish inbound tourism has some special characteristics: relatively large amount of shopping and transit tourism. The size of these segments is generated mainly by tourists from behind eastern border even though numbers of shoppers from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia is steadily diminishing. However, the transit traffic through Poland is still very important.

First results from the 2009 year surveys show that average expenditures (counted in USD) decreased: it applies both to tourists and same-day visitors. This is mainly due to changes in currency rates.
In 2008 year total receipts from international visits have increased to 11.4 billion USD,
of which 5.5 billion came from tourists and the rest – from same-day visitors.
For the whole 2009 year we expect some 20% decrease of receipts, when calculated in USD, 16-18% decrease in euro, and practically no change in PLN.
The average expenditures of tourists in 2008 amounted to some USD 410 per capita.
Daily expenditure per capita averaged at USD 79.
One-day trippers have spent USD 135 per capita.
